This was my third time participating in a school lock-in. Out of these three lock-in’s, I was in charge of two of them. This year, I didn’t have much of an opportunity to be a participant. However, I found this lock-in unique and most fascinating. Why you ask? Even though I wasn't participating in the Running Man game directly, I took great pleasure in watching students enjoying themselves in the game that the student council put together. I saw all the interaction of the students; I don't think anyone would know how fun is it to observe students getting caught or running away from the predators in the game. Playing cards gave me another chance to get to know some of our new students in the school this year. I brought a Korean traditional card game with me this time. It was really exciting for people who knew it well, but complicated for beginners. I played it with Yoonmin, who is a great at playing cards. As time went by, more and more people joined in. What intrigued me was that Hao, who doesn’t know anything about these cards, seemed to be interested in it. He asked me to teach him how to play it. It made me happy to see a foreigner trying to learn more about Korea and its cultural games...
The running man is a game in which one group of students tries to catch the other five groups who have mission to complete. The Student council members concealed sixteen papers with numbers which designate the point on the campus. Finding the paper would be the mission of the five groups. The other groups task would be to chase them. The game ends when the chasing group has caught all the other five groups. At the end, the student council would calculate how many points each group earned. The first place would be given free banana milk, while the last place would have to dance for 2 minutes.
The running man game went really well. All the students seemed to have enjoyed it, and hoped that there would be more chances to play this game later. I think its safe to say that like me, all the other Student council members were quite pleased with student’s reaction to this game.
This was our schedule.
1. Students arrive at QISS (7:00~8:00)
2. Pizza time
3. Running Man Game
4. Sports or movie time
5. Free time and sleep
6. Wake up at 7
7. Breakfast
8. Clean up
9. Take bus and good bye.
To sum up, I was really impressed at this years lock-in. I hope that more and more students join the lock-in and get a chance to know each other and share their cultures.
I interviewed some students to see what they thought about the lock-in. The following is their feedback on it.
